Comment: Our son was her first enrollee when she opened in June 2018. For several months things seemed great. She communicated well. I stayed very involved, attended special events such as Valentine’s Day card exchange, Easter egg hunt, Thanksgiving etc. (note: I was the only parent who participated in any of them!) But the last several weeks while he was in her care, she began communicating less. She went from sending me updates several times a day, to me feeling the need to ask her how the day was going. My son started becoming more upset at drop-offs and during the day. Historically he always cried at drop-off, but would settle within a few minutes. So I thought it was a stronger separation anxiety phase. A couple more weeks went by, she requested a sit down meeting with us, we happily attended and tried to come up with a plan to help my son regain comfort in her home. We agreed to some small changes, and to reconvene next week. First day the following week I asked how the day was going and she said he was having a rough day, and that we should consider maybe taking him elsewhere. So I immediately began looking elsewhere as instructed. When my parents picked him up that day, he was INCONSOLABLE afterwards, which had never happened before. I decided that day that he was done going to her home for concern of his safety and well-being. My son is a young toddler — loving, funny, sweet, and like any other young toddler has phases of separation anxiety. I directly asked her if he was showing behavior issues such as hitting, biting, etc and she told me no. Her job was to provide the closest level of safety, nurturing, and reassurance that he receives at home with us; and she failed to do that. The icing on the cake: While she was the one who suggested for us to start looking elsewhere for care, she refused to refund our deposit and only gave a partial refund for the full-time tuition I paid that he never attended. So unethical and unprofessional! The discontinuation of care was mutual! Within a week at his new daycare, no more crying! It wasn’t my son! Even had him checked by the pediatrician to make sure I wasn’t missing something. My apologies this is so long, just wanted to share the whole story. Thank you for reading.
