When I first contacted Emilia through Facebook messaging, she laid things out for me very clearly and was very honest. I found that before I would struggle finding daycares because of the dishonesty of other owners. When I toured the daycare Emilia was very nice to me and my child (I am a dark-skinned Latina and so is my baby Luis). At no time I felt any racism and i when I asked questions (we spoke in Spanish), she answered them clearly and well. Her place was SO clean and I did not even see a speck of dust anywhere. I could really relate to her as an immigrant because she told me about her struggles with communicating with American parents and I told her I too could relate as I went through the same experience in high school. If you’re a parent and looking for a good daycare for your child contact Emilia, she’s never given me any problems or doubts and my child loves her.

Emilia spoke to my wife -who is a light skinned latina- on the phone and was very cordial. They spoke in Spanish and she pretty much said we had a sure spot if we ended up liking the place after our visit. However, when my wife and I showed up (I'm a black man btw, important for this story) we were received extremely coldly with no smiles and she started scolding me about parking in the wrong spot -even though one could clearly miss the tiny sign on the side road. Following this very rude welcome, she proceeded to not ever look at me when I was asking questions and was looking at my wife instead even though I was asking questions. She also completely ignored our baby (who is obviously black as well) the whole time. To add injure to injury she then complained that I was asking too many questions related to safety of the house, even though we had clearly told her it was our first time considering a home daycare and obviously had questions about safety/security of people coming in and out. It was almost as if our black baby wasn't worth as much as any other white or latino baby, like we could just drop a sub-human baby (from her perspective) and just go without asking any questions. Nuts. When we called after the visit all of the sudden there was no spot anymore and she stopped returning my wife's phone calls. Coincidence or was she expecting a 'good' ol' pure white or white atino baby (whatever that means since many latino are also black)? I'll let you decide impartially... The 360 degree change of attitude towards my wife and I after she saw me seems very perplexing at best. I'm still trying to find ways to complain to the right authority but haven't found one yet. It always amazes me that some of these latino immigrants and/or first gen light skinned venezuelan and cubans for example come to this country and sometimes end up having even more racist bias than anyone else! Guess what, we won't take it anymore. Unreal. If you do care about diversity and justice and equal treatment of all races and don't want to take the risk of leaving your kid with a racist STAY OUT OF THIS PLACE BY ANY MEANS. If you're white, on the lighter shade of the latino spectrum and you don't care about leaving your baby with a racist person, by all means go ahead, the place is clean -at least from what we've seen.... Good luck in your search.

Comment: My granddaughter loves Emilia . When I went to pick up my granddaughter, Valor, I was so impressed by how immaculate and how clean the home smelled. Emilia, has converted her home into a REAL ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILD CARE!!!! Emilia's presence was that of a woman who prides herself in looking clean and presentable. I was extremely happy to know she has no pets. Emilia takes no risks in exposing her children with any exposure to allergies. I mention cleanliness and the image of Emilia, because I have experienced baby sitters that are filthy in their appearance and their homes are not fit for the care and safety of a child. Emilia, is 101% committed to the care of me each child. When my granddaughter is picked up by me or her mother, she looks clean and happy!! I thank Emilia for creating such a wonderful primary learning experience for my Valor!
